When Shastri went on to say that India should keep supporting Rahul in the starting spot, he was unambiguous in his opinions. Personally carrying with the same configuration would be Shastri's best option.

In the ICC Review, Shastri stated, "I believe he (Rahul) should continue (opening) because Rohit has not had much time since he has come here (Australia)."

"He had to play that Prime Minister's XI game really fast. However, I would advise continuing with the same configuration. He continued, "He [Rohit] can bat at five or six."

The return of Shubman Gill, who missed the Perth Test because of a hand injury, will help India in addition to Rohit. He hurried to fifty in the Prime Minister's XI match without wasting any time in getting down to business.

"It is a really good Indian side since Shubman Gill is also fit. Simply because of the experience, I would argue that, out of all the teams that have visited Australia in the last ten to fifteen years, this one has one of the best batting lineups. Shubman is healthy and bats at three. When Rohit feels well, he returns to play in place of (Devdutt) Padikkal and (Dhruv) Jurel," he continued.

Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wk), Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Beau Webster are the members of the Australian team (for the second Test).

Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Devdutt Padikkal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar are the Indian team.
