BRS chief KT Rama Rao is charged by the Anti-Corruption Bureau with financial violations in a Formula-E race event.
KT Rama Rao, an MLA and working president of Telangana's Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was charged by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday with suspected financial irregularities in the organization of Formula-E auto racing in Hyderabad under the Prevention of Corruption Act.IAS Arvindh Kumar has also been charged by the ACB, according to sources cited by ANI.
Jishnu Dev Varma, the governor of Telangana, gave permission to file a complaint over the matter a few days earlier.
The accusations claim that it is related to a payment of ₹45 crore and an agreement that was purportedly signed by a top bureaucrat without the required authorization.
In November, the state administration formally requested the governor's approval to move forward with the case after the Municipal Administration department urged the ACB to look into it.
Prior to this, under the BRS administration, KT Rama Rao was the Minister of Municipal Administration. Last year, he was instrumental in organizing the inaugural Formula-E race in Hyderabad; however, the competition was canceled following the election of the Congress government in December 2023.
In response to the accusations, KT Rama Rao stated that he would handle the situation lawfully, charged the Congress government with fabricating unfounded claims, and supported the previous administration's initiatives to help Telangana.
He publicly criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and encouraged him to bring up the Formula E race topic in the Telangana Assembly.
According to India Today, BRS MLA KT Rama Rao said in a letter to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, "Your government has been disseminating misleading information concerning Formula E races for months. even at the cabinet meeting this week. According to reports, the discussion lasted more than an hour. According to leaks from your office, there are intentions to file cases regarding the issue.
