Australia got off to a great start in the series when Megan Schutt took a spectacular first five-for before rookie Georgia Voll clinched the victory.
In the inaugural one-day international against India, Australia defeated India by five wickets, with Georgia Voll leading the scoring with an undefeated 46. Voll has already made an impression in the green and gold.As India collapsed to be all out for 100 in 34.2 overs at Allan Border Field, Megan Schutt stole the show with the ball, taking 5-19, her first five-wicket haul in one-dayers.
Then, in her home ground debut, Queenslander Voll partnered opener Phoebe Litchfield (35 off 29) in a 48-run opening partnership.
Following Litchfield's departure, Voll maintained composed despite Australia's wobbly 4-29 loss and then grew more expansive as the home team approached their objective.
Australia won in 16.2 overs because to the 21-year-old's unbeaten 46 from 42 balls, which included six fours and one six.
The second ODI will take place at the same location on Sunday, giving Australia a 1-0 series lead.
The Australian new-ball duo of Schutt and Kim Garth (1-20) quickly put an end to India's new-looking opening partnership of Smriti Mandhana and Priya Punia, despite India captain Harmanpreet Kaur's earlier decision to bat first on a warm day.
Wafting at a wide delivery from Schutt, wicketkeeper Beth Mooney made the catch, forcing Mandhana (8) to leave for eight after hitting two boundaries.
Before attempting to slog Schutt, Punia was unable to score more than three runs from the 16 deliveries she faced. She was only able to sky a catch to Ashleigh Gardner.
India was down 3-42 when Harleen Deol (19 off 34) was wonderfully taken by a leaping Annabel Sutherland at mid-on. When the all-rounder trapped Harmanpreet lbw for 17, India's problems only got worse.
Jemimah Rodrigues (23 from 42) entered the series in strong form from her time with the Brisbane Heat and attempted to take advantage of the familiar conditions, but she was bowled by Garth after only hitting the boundary once.
When batting first against Australia, India was bowled for 100, their second-lowest score, after losing 6-11 in 8.1 overs.
Deepti Sharma was run out for one by Georgia Wareham's outstanding direct smash from the boundary, and Schutt came back to hammer the bottom order.
Litchfield was on the attack right away when she went out with newcomer Voll, needing 101 to take a 1-0 series lead. She sped to 35 from 29 deliveries, hitting eight boundaries, but her flurry was cut short when she was caught off Renuka Thakur's bowling.
The hosts wobbled as a result, losing 3-27 as Sutherland (6), Mooney (1), and Ellyse Perry (1) left cheaply.
Earlier, when Voll made her debut in lieu of injured Australia skipper Alyssa Healy, Mooney gave her Australia ODI cap number 150.
Allan Border Field will host the second ODI on Sunday.
