Anurag Thakur criticizes Revanth Reddy's Telangana government and supports Allu Arjun, the actor from Pushpa 2.

The actor attended a Pushpa 2 screening in Hyderabad, when there was a stampede that started the whole affair.

Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who have come out in favor of Telugu superstar Allu Arjun, who is embroiled in controversy after the stampede-like occurrence at the Sandhya Theatre, have implied that some individuals are attempting to damage the actor's reputation for Pushpa 2.

The whole situation started on December 4 when Allu Arjun was at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad for the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule. A large throng had gathered to see the actor, and when he waved to the audience from his car's sunroof, commotion broke out. As a result, a woman named Revathi tragically died, and injuries to her child.

Anurag Singh Thakur, the head of the BJP, criticized some Telangana's ruling Congress politicians on Wednesday for their comments on actor Allu Arjun. He urged the party to prevent its members from saying anything that could damage the Telugu film industry's reputation.

Allu Arjun's subsequent comments, in which he denied Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's claims of a "roadshow" before to the movie showing and referred to the stampede as a tragic accident, have drawn criticism from some Congress leaders.

Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Telangana, on Wednesday, Anurag Thakur emphasized how the South Indian film industry—especially Telugu cinema—helped establish Indian cinema as a major player on the international scene.

According to the former Union Minister, the disparaging remarks could jeopardize these accomplishments.

"Indian cinema has gained international recognition thanks to the South Indian film industry, particularly Telugu cinema. Sadly, such unfounded claims run the risk of damaging this reputation," Thakur said news agency PTI, adding that Allu Arjun received a National Award while serving as Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting under PM Narendra Modi.

In relation to the incident, Allu Arjun was taken into custody on December 13; the Telangana High Court subsequently granted him temporary bail. On Tuesday, he was called to testify in the case.

Tollywood is being targeted by CM Reddy because
Chief minister Revanth Reddy's Congress government in Telangana is allegedly targeting Tollywood because superstars have refused to comply with the CM's attempts to exert control and "extract money" from them, according to BJP leader Amit Malviya, who shared the same views as his colleague Anurag Thakur on Thursday.

Malviya claimed in a post on X that "Under the Congress government led by Revanth Reddy, something disturbing is happening in Telangana. Telugu artists and producers have reportedly failed to comply with the Chief Minister's attempts to establish authority and extort money from them, which is why the administration seems to be targeting Tollywood, one of India's biggest and most active film industries.

"Star Nagarjuna's conference facility in Hyderabad was demolished, which sparked the dispute. Samantha Prabhu, Nagarjuna's now-estranged daughter-in-law and a popular actress in her own right, was then personally attacked by a serving female cabinet minister. Veteran actor Mohan Babu was also the target of the harassment campaign, with his son allegedly being used to settle political grudges. Allu Arjun, another well-known Tollywood personality, has most recently been targeted," he added.

Malviya took aim at the Congress, saying that the Telangana situation is a clear warning to people who believe the Congress protects free speech and expression.

According to the party's activities, which show a pattern of extortion and coercion that targets livelihoods and reputations in its pursuit of wealth and power, this is not the case. The Revanth Reddy-led government has achieved nothing noteworthy in its first year in power and has grown extremely unpopular. The BJP is positioned as a possible substitute, and Telangana seems prepared for a new era," Amit Malviya continued.
