Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood star Nargis Fakhri, has been taken into custody in relation to the Queens, New York, fire deaths of her ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs and his companion Anastasia Star Ettienne. According to the authorities, Aliya set a two-story garage on fire, killing the victims from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation. She is accused of killing them and has been refused bail.
"This defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno," said District Attorney Melinda Katz, who characterized the crime as a malicious act. "The victims tragically died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries," she added, citing a Daily News story.
Her mother has spoken out in support of Aliya, however Nargis Fakhri has not yet responded to the situation. "I don't think she would be killing someone," she said, expressing shock at the accusations. She was someone who genuinely cared about everyone. She made an effort to assist everyone, according to several news sources.
The Post claims that Edward Jacobs' mother disclosed that a year before to the terrible event, Jacobs and Aliya had broken up. According to reports, Aliya persisted in pursuing him after the separation. The story also made it clear that Jacobs and Ettienne were only friends and not romantically involved.
A witness at the crime scene who tried to save Anastasia but had to jump over a barrier to escape the fire provided one of the most important pieces of testimony. According to the witness, Anastasia had returned to the flaming structure in an attempt to save Edward Jacobs. Additionally, the witness disclosed that Aliya and Edward had "an abusive relationship," which is thought to have contributed to the deadly fire.
