According to reports, Washington Sundar will rejoin India's XI, Rohit Sharma will open, while KL Rahul will replace Shubman Gill at number three.

According to reports, KL Rahul will take Shubman Gill's place at No. 3 in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, while Rohit Sharma will open with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

With captain Rohit Sharma expected to return to opening the batting, India is expected to choose a batting-order change for the Boxing Day Test. According to some media sources, Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal will walk out to start the batting in Thursday's fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the MCG in Melbourne. Additionally, according to the sources, Shubman Gill would either go down the order or be replaced in the XI by Dhruv Jurel, and KL Rahul will bat at No. 3 in his place.

Rohit has had terrible performances in the middle order thus far in the series. Due to the tremendous success of the opening duo of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal during the Perth Test victory, he batted lower in the order when he returned to the team for the Adelaide pink-ball Test. When Rohit returned, he was only able to score 19 runs at number six in three innings, with a top score of 10. However, in 18 Test matches as a number six, he has amassed 1,056 runs, three hundreds, and six fifties, with an average of 48.00.

Rohit has only amassed 152 runs in seven games during the current Test season, which began with the home Bangladesh series, at a startlingly low average of 11.69. He has also only managed one fifty. He has amassed 607 runs at a below-average average of 26.39 in 24 innings in 13 Test matches this year, including two hundreds and two fifties. He has a maximum score of 131.

Rohit has been one of India's best-performing white-skinned talents since he started playing in 2019. As an opener in 42 Test matches, Rohit has amassed 2,685 runs at an average of 44.01 in 64 innings, with nine hundreds and eight fifties. 212 is his highest score. With 2704 runs at an average of 42.25, nine hundreds, and eight fifties in 39 Test matches and 67 innings, he has been India's best player in the ICC World Test Championship's history.

"Who hits where shouldn't be a concern. Not something I would be talking about here, but something we need to find out. When questioned about his batting position on Tuesday, Rohit responded, "We will do what is best for the team."

Washington Sundar is probably going to rejoin the Indian XI.
It is unclear if all-rounder Washington Sundar will replace Akash Deep in the bowling lineup or seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Reddy, who has been one of India's most reliable hitters throughout the series.

Both teams will play the highly anticipated Boxing Day Test with the goal of securing the crucial series lead required to make a case, as the series is already tied at one.
