Winter Session of Parliament: Government Prioritizes Waqf Reforms, Opposition Draws Attention to the Manipur Crisis

There will be 19 sittings throughout the session, which ends on December 20. Eleven of the 16 measures are up for discussion and passing, while five are set to be introduced and passed.

With 16 legislation on the government's agenda, including one to alter the Waqf Act, the winter session of Parliament is scheduled to start today.

The five new legislation are the Rashtriya Sahkari Vishwavidalaya Bill, the Indian Ports Bill, the Merchant Shipping Bill, the Coastal Shipping Bill, and the Punjab Courts (Amendment) Bill.

A joint parliamentary committee is now reviewing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which is scheduled for consideration and passage. The committee is anticipated to give its report during the winter session. Members of the opposition have demanded that the committee's deadline be extended.

November 26th Constitution Day Event
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar will attend a special event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly's adoption of the Constitution.

The celebration will be held at the old Parliament building, the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, where the Constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949, according to a statement made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. It was on January 26, 1950, that the Constitution became operative.

In addition to copies of the Constitution in Maithili and Sanskrit, a commemorative coin and stamp will be issued on the occasion. Along with a pamphlet devoted to the Constitution's graphics, two volumes, "Making of the Constitution: A Glimpse" and "Making of the Constitution and its Glorious Journey," will also be released. President Murmu will read the Preamble to the Constitution, and people from all over India and outside will join him, Rijiju said.

Meeting of All Parties
At the center-organized all-party meeting, the opposition called for a discussion on the violence in Manipur and ways to put a stop to the problem. Additionally, the government has called on all parties to guarantee that Parliament runs smoothly.

Floor leaders of different political parties met with leaders of the ruling party prior to the winter session. Following the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju urged everyone to work together to ensure the session went smoothly.
