Rohit Sharma has departed for Australia to join the Indian team on Saturday, adding to the exciting positive developments in India's first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Last Saturday, India captain Rohit Sharma and his spouse, Ritika Sajdeh, formally announced the arrival of their second child.

Following the arrival of a new member, Rohit and Ritika announced the news on Instagram along with an animated photo of their four-member family. The photo's caption said, "FAMILY – the one where we are FOUR," and the post's description included the date of birth, "15.11.2024".

Rohit had already alluded to the new family member when he stated that he was unsure if he will play in the opening Test of the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, which begins in Perth on November 22.

However, Rohit was seen departing for Australia with his wife accompanying him to say goodbye, suggesting that the captain is now prepared to resume his playing duties.

As he continues to set an example in the first Test match in Perth, star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has taken over for Rohit.

After India's first innings collapsed for just 150 on Day 1 of the match, Bumrah took four wickets on the first day and finished with five wickets on the second day when he dismissed Alex Carey on the opening delivery of his spell. Australia was bowled out for a pitiful 104.

In addition to recording his first five-wicket haul as captain of India, Bumrah became the first Indian pacer to take 50 wickets in a single WTC edition by taking Carey's wicket in the morning session of the second day's play. Only Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja had previously accomplished this feat.

After Bumrah's brilliant performance, Indian opening batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul built on India's second opportunity to seize the initiative. By the end of Day 2 in Perth, they had amassed a commanding 218-run lead thanks to a fantastic unbroken 172-run partnership.
