Jaiswal became the third Indian to achieve a century in his first Test match in Australia when he hit a six off Hazlewood's bowling to get his fourth Test century.
Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his first Test century in Australia with a six against Josh Hazlewood while batting at 95 runs off 204 balls. After Sunil Gavaskar and Motganhalli Jaisimha, the left-handed batsman became the third Indian to reach a century in his debut Test match in Australia.Gavaskar scored 113 runs in the second inning of the 1977 Brisbane Test, which was contested from December 2 to 6, and Jaisimha scored 101 runs in the 1968 Brisbane Test.
The internet is currently going crazy over the footage of Jaiswal celebrating after hitting a six to reach his first Test century in Australia.
Jaiswal reached the 100-run milestone with three sixes and eight fours. He scored 90 runs on his own at the end of the second day of play, and it took him very little time to score the final 10 runs on Sunday to reach his century.
Alongside KL Rahul, who made 77 runs, he contributed 201 runs for the first wicket. The pair shattered the mark of the highest Test opening partnership for India in Australia, held by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth, with a partnership of 201 runs for the first wicket.
Srikkanth and Gavaskar contributed 191 runs in the 1986 India-Australia Test match, which was held in Sydney from January 2–6.
Jaiswal broke Gavaskar's record for the best individual score by an Indian hitter in his debut Test match in Australia with 116 runs from 229 balls at the conclusion of 70 overs in India's second innings.
The top-ranked Test batsman in India, Jaiswal, now hopes to turn his century into a significant total and assist India in reaching over 400 runs in the second innings.
The most sixes in a year
Jaiswal beat the global record of hitting the most sixes in a calendar year set by former New Zealand captain and wicketkeeper-batter Brendon McCullum on the second day of play in the ongoing first Test. In 2015, McCullum hit 33 sixes in nine Test matches for the Kiwis, whereas Jaiswal has hit 35 sixes in 12 games for India so far in 2024. In the third session of Day 2, he smashed a hundred-meter or more six off Nathan Lyon's bowling to surpass McCullum's total.
