Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been asked to "retire immediately" as fan ire approaches its peak.

The supporters' rage reached stratospheric heights during the three-match Test series against New Zealand due to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's combined failure as leaders and hitters. To the extent that the cornerstones of India's batting lineup, who are revered and feared by everyone in world cricket, were told to "retire" from Test cricket immediately. In the three games, Rohit amassed 91 runs at an average of 15.16. 52 was his highest score. In contrast, Kohli only scored 93 runs at an average of 15.50 in the same number of games. In addition to his 70-run victory in Pune's second innings, Kohli amassed 23 runs in the
rest of the five innings in the series.

India's poor batting performance in the three Test matches was a reflection of Rohit and Kohli's poor form. India barely reached the 200-run threshold twice over the remainder of the series, with the exception of the second innings in Pune, where Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant created a record partnership to propel India's total over 450. In the first innings of the Bengaluru Test, they were bowled out for 46, which was their lowest-ever score at home.

Only two Indian batsmen, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, scored regularly during the series; the others' contributions were so insignificant that India suffered their first-ever home defeat (in a series that included at least three Test matches).

Both as captain and as an opener, Rohit acknowledged that he was lacking. The shot he made in the second innings in Mumbai to remove his wicket before the spinners bowled raised a lot of eyebrows. He was dismissed by pacers on spin-friendly tracks.

It was the same with Kohli. His weaknesses against left-arm spinners were exposed more than ever. He was taken by surprise by Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel, who beat him on the inner and outside edges.

The supporters were a little overwhelmed by Rohit and Kohli's abrupt collapse. Those engaged in the argument about who was the "best batter" between Rohit and Kohli typically called for their retirement.
