The Sena camp demands Shinde's return, while the BJP and NCP support Fadnavis for Maharashtra chief minister

BJP, NCP Back Fadnavis For Maharashtra CM, Sena Camp Pushes For Shinde's Return

Debate over the chief minister's position continues after the Mahayuti alliance won the Maharashtra elections; Eknath Shinde's group is calling for his return, while the BJP is supporting Devendra Fadnavis.

Following a meeting in Mumbai on Sunday, sources told CNN-News18 that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which won 41 seats in the Maharashtra assembly elections, has endorsed Devendra Fadnavis for the position of chief minister, just days after Mahayuti won the 288-member parliament.

The Eknath Shinde Shiv Sena group, however, has called for Shinde to take back his position, stating that the Mahayuti was favored by the poll trends due to his main project, the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana.

Shinde had previously stated that the state's citizens had voted in response to the assistance programs.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won 132 seats, is also in favor of Devendra Fadnavis as the state's next chief minister.

The new government formation formula is complete, according to sources, and the BJP will have over 24 ministers, compared to about 12 for Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena.

The new Maharashtra cabinet was expected to include about ten ministers from the NCP.

They stated that the one chief minister and two deputy chief ministers will remain in place in the meantime.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to meet with Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, and Eknath Shinde to discuss the next steps. Some parties, however, stated that the leaders would not be visiting Delhi.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the ruling Mahayuti, which together make up six major parties, faced off in the Maharashtra election.

By placing second in 19 constituencies, independent candidates demonstrated their abilities.

SENA LEGISLATIVE PARTY LEADER UNANIMOUSLY ELECTED IN SHINDE

Shiv Sena leaders unanimously elected Eknath Shinde as the party's legislative leader on Sunday night.

At the party meeting, which was presided over by Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant proposed the motion.

Uday Samant, the leader of the Shiv Sena, announced following the meeting that the party leaders had agreed to delegate all decision-making authority to Eknath Shinde in order to choose the cabinet and swearing-in procedure.

Sanjay Shirsat, the candidate for the Shiv Sena, commented on the situation, saying, "It's possible that the Mahayuti leaders would travel to Delhi on Monday. Although all party members want their party leader to be in charge, Ekanth Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar have the last say.

Rahul Shewale, a sitting member of parliament for the Shinde faction's Shiv Sena, also affirmed that Shinde was chosen unanimously to lead the legislative party.
