In the midst of a "cash-for-votes" incident just before the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde came under scrutiny from the Election Commission.When Tawde met with Rajan Naik, the BJP candidate for Nalasopara, at the Hotel Vivanta in Virar East, there was an altercation. Workers from Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) disrupted the meeting, claiming that the BJP leader was disbursing Rs 5 crore on election eve and that he had a journal in his luggage that detailed transactions totaling Rs 15 crore.
Tawde denied the accusations and called for an impartial investigation by the police and EC.
Son of Vasai-Virar MLA Hitendra Thakur, Nalasopara MLA Kshitij Thakur was also present at the time of the occurrence. Tawde's cars were checked by EC officials, but no proof was discovered. In conjunction with the incident, the police filed a formal complaint.
