Lautaro Martinez's incredible volley in the second half helped Argentina upset Peru 1-0 in their South America World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.Argentina's performance was far from perfect, though, as they had trouble creating opportunities. But Martinez scored a spectacular goal in the 55th minute after Messi sent in a cross from the left.

Messi Gets One Step Nearer To Setting Another Record

With the assist, Messi tied Landon Donovan's all-time international men's record, marking his 58th goal in his international career. However, Messi will have to wait a few months before he can claim the record for himself because Argentina's next World Cup qualifying matches are against Brazil and Urugay in March of next year.

However, it was Martinez's 32nd goal for Argentina, matching the record held by the great Diego Maradona.

Brazil and Uruguay End in a Draw

Uruguay held Brazil to a 1-1 tie at Salvador's Arena Fonte Nova. After a goalless first half, Uruguay took the lead thanks to a goal by Valverde in the 55th minute. But Gerson drew one back seven minutes later, making the score 1-1.
