Near Howrah, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed.


Derailment of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express: Santragachhi and Kharagpur relief trains and medical assistance arrived at the scene.

Early this morning, three coaches on the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed close to Howrah in West Bengal. Around 5:30 am, the weekly special train connecting Howrah and Hyderabad derailed near Nalpur, which is around 40 km from Kolkata. Two of the coaches were passenger coaches, one of which was an AC economy coach and the other a parcel van.

There were no recorded fatalities or serious injuries.

"A parcel van and two coaches of the 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express derailed while passing through Nalpur station of Kharagpur Division at 5.31 am today," a statement from South Eastern Railway (SER) stated.

According to SER spokesman Omprakash Charan Sai, the catastrophe happened when the train was moving from the middle to the outside tracks.


A departmental investigation into the accident would be conducted, he said.

A helpline (032229-3764) has been established in Kharagpur, the official said, adding that the accident caused certain express and suburban trains to be delayed.
