Results of the Maharashtra election from the CSDS-Lokniti Survey

Maharashtra politics have seen significant upheavals during the last five years. A new three-party coalition was formed following the dissolution of the previous one following the 2019 Assembly elections.

In the midst of the Assembly's tenure, a new three-party coalition was created after two state-level parties had severe splits. A single round of elections rarely resolves such fluidity. Therefore, it was doubtful that a settled equation among the political players would be represented by the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Following Eknath Shinde's comments on the chief minister's job, Devendra Fadnavis said, "In Mahayuti, there was never a difference of opinions..."

"There was never a difference of opinion towards one another in our Mahayuti," Mr. Fadnavis told the journalists. We have always sat down to make choices, and prior to the elections, we stated that we would decide (on the CM's position) as a group. Eknath Shinde ji has answered several questions that few people had today. We will meet with our leaders shortly and make a decision.

Eknath Shinde declared earlier today that he would follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision regardless of what it is.

Sanjay Raut of the UBT Sena claims that the alliance is still intact and says, "Karyakartas felt the party should have fought polls independently."

"Remaining in MVA." We're talking about it. Karyakartas believed that we ought to have battled on our own. These are merely conjectures. Speaking at a news conference in the nation's capital, Sanjay Raut stated, "We fought in the Lok Sabha as an MVA alliance, and it was a big thing to win such a huge number."Sanjay Raut responded that the MVA leaders are "capable" of making choices about the BMC elections when asked if the Shiv Sena would run as part of MVA or alone in the forthcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Maha Vikas Aghadi or Mahayuti: which alliance was better at running Maharashtra?

More individuals thought the Mahayuti administration, led by Eknath Shinde, was superior to the MVA government, led by Uddhav Thackeray. The Mahayuti government's stronger positive rating seemed to transcend economic, geographical, and demographic differences. Nevertheless, voters of all ages were more likely to support it. Women voters were more likely to value the Mahayuti government's efforts than male voters.

"The BJP supported us and will support whoever they choose to be chief minister," said Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske.

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said on Wednesday (November 27, 2024) that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had backed them and that they would return the favor by supporting whoever the BJP selected as the Chief Minister after Maharashtra caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde left the CM position up to the BJP.

The Shiv Sena MP stated, "PM Modi and HM Amit Shah gave their valuable time during the Maharashtra elections, and their party's efforts and hard work are partly responsible for the victory we achieved."

Decisions at the federal vs state levels: the function of leadership in coalition politics

Although state-level concerns and leaders are the focus of assembly elections, national-level leaders frequently have a significant influence on state-level decisions. More than four voters in the just finished Maharashtra Assembly elections stated that national leadership factors influenced their vote decision.

Sena (UBT) leader claims that the BJP does not make decisions under Shinde's influence.

Ambadas Danve, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), claimed on Wednesday that the BJP is a party that makes its own decisions and is not influenced by its ally Eknath Shinde, who is currently the caretaker chief minister of Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena (UBT) deputy leader Sushma Andhare asserted that the BJP's strong pressure is what led Shinde to take this decision.

"On November 23, when the election results were announced and the BJP had a sizable following, Eknath Shinde would have demonstrated his generosity if he had wanted to. However, he turned to emotional blackmail and worked until the last minute to secure the CM position, Ms. Andhare observed.

Eknath Shinde affirms that he fully supports Modi-Shah's choice about the CM face.

The government formation process was taking longer than expected, which I did not like. I therefore took the initiative to state that I fully support any choice that Amit bhai and Narendra Modi make. Mr. Shinde informed The Hindu that the chief minister would be a Mahayuti.

Opposition claims that Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde are BJP slaves.

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole made fun of the Mahayuti for taking so long to choose the State's new chief minister, even though the BJP and its allies won a landslide majority of seats in the most recent Assembly election.

He charged that the alliance was ignoring the issues facing the Maharashtra people.
