Many people considered Kailash Gahlot to be one of Mr. Kejriwal's closest aides, especially during the time the former Chief Minister was in Delhi's Tihar Jail for the purported liquor policy scandal.
New Delhi: In front of Union Ministers ML Khattar and Harsh Malhotra, Kailash Gahlot, the former transport minister of Delhi and, until Sunday, one of the top leaders of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, walked down the aisle this morning to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. A "turning point" was Mr. Khattar's description of Mr. Gahlot's induction, particularly in the run-up to the February election."For me, this is not an easy move... In his initial remarks after joining the BJP, Mr. Gahlot stated, "I have worked for Delhi throughout... as an MLA and minister. I was a part of the AAP since the time of Anna Hazare (the anti-corruption activist whose popular movement gave birth to the AAP)."
Some people could believe that pressure or an overnight decision led to this. He forcefully denied rumors that the action was the consequence of "pressure" from federal investigation authorities, telling reporters, "But I want to tell them I haven't ever taken any decision due to pressure."
"There is a story that says I did this because of pressure from the Enforcement Directorate or the Central Bureau of Investigation. As a member of the AAP since 2015, I wish to inform his detractors. He took aim at his previous party instead, saying, "As an MLA and as a Minister, I have never done anything because of pressure."
"... the fact is, AAP compromised its values," he said, asserting that the party's dedication to the people had been overshadowed by "political ambitions" (interpreted as a jab at Mr. Kejriwal's remarks as prime minister).
Mr. Gahlot was alluding to the AAP's and other opposition parties' persistent accusations that the BJP harasses and intimidates other party leaders, especially prior to an election, using federal agencies like the CBI or ED in an attempt to destabilize or discredit them and garner additional votes.

The BJP, which insists that the ED and CBI are distinct agencies, has refuted this claim.
Furthermore, Mr. Gahlot was taking revenge on former colleagues who claimed he had allowed the "pressure" to get to him. His resignation was attributed to the AAP's "dwindling credibility" on a variety of topics.
To date, Arvind Kejriwal has not commented on the resignation. He handed the microphone to senior leader Durgesh Pathak at an event on Sunday, declining to respond to queries about Mr. Gahlot.

He said that Mr. Gehlot had been subjected to interrogation and raids for several months; others, less tactful, publicly stated that Mr. Gahlot was unable to bear the pressure and chose to comply.
Mr. Gahlot's decision was made less than three months before an Assembly election that is anticipated to pit his present political masters against his previous ones.
How AAP and Gahlot Divided
Many people considered Kailash Gahlot to be one of Mr. Kejriwal's closest aides, especially during the time the former Chief Minister was in Delhi's Tihar Jail for the purported liquor policy scandal. And after obtaining bail, Mr. Gahlot was considered to becoming the party chief after Mr. Kejriwal resigned.
However, throughout the previous few months, everything began to fall apart, with his termination as Law Minister being interpreted as the catalyst for the breakdown of his relationship with the party. This occurred in December of last year, following Manish Sisodia's resignation and the Delhi government's juggling of cabinet duties.

Atishi was given the assignment by Mr. Kejriwal, who was then incarcerated. This decision demonstrated her importance inside the party and raised the possibility that she may eventually succeed him.
However, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena stepped in and gave the position to Mr. Gahlot, who complied with Mr. Kejriwal and Atishi without saying anything accommodative.
