In a Kerala Kasavu saree, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra takes the oath of office as Wayanad MP.

For the first time in decades, Parliament now has three members of the Gandhi family, thanks to 52-year-old Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's admission to the Lok Sabha following her overwhelming victory in Kerala's Wayanad.

After winning from Kerala's Wayanad, Congress national secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra became the third woman in her family to take the oath of office as a member of the Lok Sabha. She donned a Kerala Kasavu saree, a striking off-white saree with a gold border that is customary during Malayali celebrations, on Thursday. Her clothes gave off the impression that she was actively employed in Wayanad.

52-year-old Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took an oath in front of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and members of Parliament, holding a copy of the Constitution.Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, her brother Rahul Gandhi, mother Sonia Gandhi, husband Robert Vadra, and their kids attended the function.

Parliament now has three Gandhi family members for the first time in decades after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was elected to the Lok Sabha. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, their mother Sonia Gandhi chose not to run from Raebareli, so she is in the Rajya Sabha, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi will be in the Lok Sabha.

After winning both Wayanad and Raebareli, Rahul Gandhi decided to keep his family stronghold and left Wayanad, where Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was then put forward. She received 6.22 lakh votes, far more than Rahul Gandhi received in the 2024 elections, and trounced Sathyan Mokeri, her closest CPM opponent, by more than four lakh votes.

After winning, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her excitement about representing the people in Parliament.

You have my sincere gratitude for your confidence in me. Over time, I will ensure that you genuinely believe that this win is your own, and that the person you have chosen to represent you is aware of your aspirations and fights for you as if you were their own. "I'm excited to represent you in Parliament," she tweeted.

By a margin of 3.64 lakh votes, Rahul Gandhi won a landslide victory in Wayanad, garnering 6.47 lakh votes. In the elections of 2019 and 2024, he won the seat twice.

In addition to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congressman Ravindra Chavan took the oath of office as an MP after defeating his BJP opponent from Nanded in a Lok Sabha by-election that was held in that seat.

"Congratulations." Robert Vadra remarked on Facebook after sharing pictures of Priyanka Gandhi taking the oath.

Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP's IT cell, made fun of Priyanka Gandhi for her oath-taking ceremony, though. "Wayanad's new Muslim League MP takes the oath of office. He tweeted, "A historic moment for the Gandhi family."

PRIYANKA GANDHI VADRA'S POLITICS ADVENTURE

In 2019, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra became involved in politics when she was named the general secretary of the Congress for eastern Uttar Pradesh. She was given control of the entire state a year later.

She was instrumental in leading the grand old party in Uttar Pradesh and other states in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, even though her party did not perform well in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The idea that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be selected from Raebareli was the subject of much conjecture. She chose not to run, nonetheless, because of organizational obligations.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra oversaw the INDIA bloc, which consisted of the Congress and Samajwadi Party. They secured 43 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, halting the BJP's momentum and preventing the saffron party from surpassing the 272 majority threshold.

She also helped her party win Raebareli, where Rahul Gandhi ran, and Amethi, where Kishori Lal Sharma, an assistant to the Gandhi family, defeated Smriti Irani, a BJP politician and then-Union Minister.
