Washington Sundar and Akash Deep each took one wicket, while Ravichandran Ashwin contributed three. Earlier in the day, India reached 263 thanks to 90s from Shubman Gill, a scorching 60 from Rishabh Pant, and a superb 38-run cameo from Washington Sundar. This gave them their first innings lead in the Test series. Then, with the dismissal of NZ skipper Tom Latham in the opening over, Akash Deep set the tone for India.
