Following the US election, Bluesky gains one million users as users abandon X.

According to the microblogging service, its user base has grown from nine million in September to over 15 million now.

Due to a migration of members dissatisfied with X's direction under billionaire owner Elon Musk, the social media platform Bluesky has added over a million new users since the US presidential election.

From roughly nine million users in September, the microblogging service reported on Wednesday that it now has over 15 million subscribers.

Founded in 2019 by Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, Bluesky has become known as a haven for left-leaning users who are fed up with X's shift to the right under Musk's leadership.

Some Bluesky users have switched to the platform due to a spike in hostile content on X and Musk's affiliation with US President-elect Donald Trump.

The billionaire Mark Cuban, who supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the election, wrote on Tuesday, "Hello Less Hateful World."

The Guardian newspaper declared on Wednesday that it would stop publishing content on X because of the "disturbing content" on the "toxic media platform," which includes conspiracy theories and racism.

In a statement posted on its website, The Guardian stated, "The US presidential election campaign only served to highlight what we have long believed: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse."

"We believe that resources would be better spent promoting our journalism elsewhere, and that the advantages of being on X are now outweighed by the drawbacks."

Bluesky has emphasized its reputation as a haven for disillusioned leftists.

The platform stated on X that none of its employees would be "sitting with a presidential candidate tonight and giving them direct access to control what you see online" in response to reports that Musk will watch the election results with Trump.

Even while X currently has a far larger user base than Bluesky, there have been multiple waves of users leaving the platform since Musk took ownership in October 2022.

According to internet traffic analyzer Similarweb, the largest single-day drop under Musk occurred on the day following the US election, when some 115,000 US-based web users abandoned their X accounts.
