Actor Dhanush has sued actor Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, their production company, Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, and two other people on behalf of Wunderbar Films Private Limited for using Naanum Rowdy Dhaan excerpts in a Netflix documentary without permission. On November 27, the Madras High Court heard the case.

Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and others were directed by Justice Abdul Quiddhose to explain the accusations made against them during the hearing.

On her 18th birthday, Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan's documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, was made available on Netflix. After Dhanush refused to grant a NOC (No Objection Certificate) for the usage of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan clips, Nayanthara penned a damning open letter to him prior to the release.

Additionally, Dhanush threatened to sue the couple for utilizing BTS images in the documentary in a legal notification. He stated in the notice that if they continue to use clips, he will want damages of Rs 10 crore.

Nayanthara termed Dhanush a tyrant and accused him of harboring a personal vendetta in the open letter. They justified the use of the movie's snippets by claiming that the BTS images, which were captured on personal cameras, were featured in the movie.
