Delhi University's long-delayed student elections saw two crucial seats gained by each of NSUI and ABVP, according to the vote results. This resulted in a violent campaign and strict security, changing the balance of power at DUSU.
The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) each took home two seats in the fiercely contested Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) election. The results announcement was postponed from its original date of September 28 in order to address concerns over defacement during the campaign.
ABVP won the positions of Vice President and Secretary, while NSUI gained the positions of President and Joint Secretary.
Raunak Khatri of the NSUI was elected President, and Lokesh Choudhary was appointed Joint Secretary. However, Mitravinda Karanwal was elected Secretary and Bhanu Pratap Singh of the ABVP was elected Vice President.
After a seven-year hiatus, the Congress-backed NSUI made a powerful return in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections. Although ABVP now has a majority in the DUSU, the power dynamics were somewhat altered by this year's outcomes.
Following years of dominance by the RSS-affiliated ABVP, the triumph, which was enthusiastically greeted by NSUI members with shouts and slogans, signaled a major resurgence of the party's popularity among students.
With 21 contenders vying for four important positions, this year's polls were hotly contested. In a high-stakes contest, the ABVP, NSUI, and a Left-leaning alliance of AISA and SFI faced off against each other, highlighting ideological differences.
FINALLY OUT: LONG DELAYED DUSU POLL RESULTS
Following a stay order issued by the Delhi High Court to address election-related issues, the election results were announced almost two months after the polling date. Under strict security, counting got underway early at Delhi University's North Campus.
To maintain tranquility, Delhi Police erected a three-layer barricade at the counting center. Tight regulations were also put in place to stop post-results partying on campus.
DUSU POLLS PARTICIPANTS: A HOT RACE
The ABVP, NSUI, and the Left-leaning alliance of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students' Association (AISA) engaged in a bitter contest during the elections.

NSUI's Yash Nandal (15404 votes) and AISA's Ayush Mondal were surpassed by Bhanu Pratap Singh (ABVP) with 24166 votes for vice president.

Aman Kapasia of ABVP with 15249 votes and Sneha Aggarwal of SFI with 21975 votes won the position of Joint Secretary.
Roads throughout the campus were covered in campaign posters and leaflets, in spite of the High Court's order prohibiting defacement.
