On Thursday, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that the government would enact legislation prohibiting minors under the age of sixteen from using social media.
Speaking during a press conference, Albanese stated, "The onus will be on social media platforms to demonstrate they are taking reasonable steps to prevent access." "The onus won't be on parents or young people."
According to him, legislation will be presented to parliament this year and will take effect a year after MPs have approved it.
