The senior BJP leader was also met by his deputy in the departing state cabinet, Ajit Pawar (NCP) and Devendra Fadnavis (BJP).

Who is CM of Maharashtra?

Although it is anticipated that BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis will take over as chief minister, confirmation is still pending. Fadnavis and Shinde are competing for the position of chief minister.

The leader of the Shiv Sena has stated time and time again that he will not stand in the way of the formation of the government. At a news conference on Wednesday, he declared that he will accept and back the choices made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the future chief minister.

If the BJP offers Shinde the position of deputy chief minister, several Shiv Sena leaders are urging him to accept it. "However, another section feels it wouldn't be right for him to accept No. 2 position after serving as CM for more than two-and-a-half years," according to the sources.
