In a five-match Test Series for the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025, India is prepared to play the defending World Test Champions Australia in their own backyard. The Optus Stadium in Perth will host the first Test starting on Friday, November 22.
According to media sources, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, and his wife Ritika Sajdeh welcomed a newborn boy into the world on Friday. The couple, who are parents to their 2018-born daughter Samaira, have not yet made the announcement formally. For a long time, the couple had been able to keep Ritika's pregnancy out of the news. After Rohit took a paternity leave prior to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this month, the news was made public.
Due to Ritika's pregnancy, Rohit was expected to miss the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, with the couple celebrating parenthood for the second time over a week prior to the first Test, there is a good chance the Indian skipper will play in the opening match of the series. India, who are having trouble finding a suitable replacement for the batting master, will greatly benefit from Rohit's availability.

Abhimanyu Easwaran was brought in by India as a backup opener for Rohit, however he did not perform well for India A during the practice matches against Australia A. There couldn't be a greater relief for team India if Rohit Sharma is able to play in the first Test match. KL Rahul was another option to replace Rohit, but he also didn't show much promise in the second practice match.
Following a humbling 0–3 loss to New Zealand at home, Rohit is under pressure. He has a lot to prove on the Australia tour, and his batting form hasn't been the best.

India's Injury Concerns
In preparation for the first Test match at the WACA Stadium, India is now playing India A in an intra-squad simulation match. ESPN Cricinfo said that KL Rahul, who started the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal during this match, was hit on the right elbow by a rising delivery from Prasidh Krishna. The top batter became even more uncomfortable as a result, and he was observed being attended by the physiotherapist as he retired off the field. Before the agonizing blow, he seemed to be looking in fluent touch.

The Times of India, however, claims that KL Rahul's injury is not serious and that he is able to play in the game. India will have to give Abhimanyu Easwaran a debut if Rahul is unable to play.
