The number of fatalities from the bus accident in the Almora area of Uttarakhand has increased to 36. District officials say the 45-seater passenger bus plunged into a 200-meter-deep chasm near Marchula this morning while making the roughly 250-kilometer overnight trip from Pauri in Garhwal to Ramnagar in Kumaon. About 35 kilometers from the destination, Rampur, it was involved in an accident. At the scene of the disaster, the State Disaster Response Force and police have begun a rescue effort.
According to officials, the collision happened at approximately 8.25 a.m. The first people to arrive and begin rescuing passengers were the people from the neighboring communities. The suspension of RTO officials in the region has been ordered by the chief minister. He has declared that the relatives of those killed in the accident will receive ₹ 4 lakh each, and those injured will receive ₹ 1 lakh. Additionally, a magisterial probe has been mandated.
In addition to expressing his sympathies to the families of the accident victims, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the state government is overseeing relief efforts in the region. He promised ₹50,000 in aid for the injured and Rs 2 lakh in compensation for the relatives of the deceased.
