After retiring from international cricket, the Australian wicketkeeper joins the national team as a coach.

In addition to announcing his retirement from all international cricket, Matthew Wade will coach Australia in the forthcoming Twenty20 International Series against Pakistan.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, the 36-year-old played his final match for Australia after making his debut in 2011. Wade scored 4,682 runs with five hundreds and 19 half-centuries while participating in 36 Test matches, 97 ODIs, and 92 T20Is. In addition to taking 240 catches and 26 stumpings, the wicketkeeper-batter was a member of the Australian team that won their first-ever T20 World Cup in 2021.

Wade will remain with the Big Bash League's Hobart Hurricanes and be accessible to franchise leagues across the globe. Wade said that following the T20 World Cup earlier in the year, he thought his time as an Australia player was finished. He added that he had always planned to continue instructing after retiring.

Wade also expressed gratitude to his family, coaches, staff, and teammates. Even though it was as difficult as it could be on a global scale, I relished the ride. I couldn't have achieved as much as I did without the support of wonderful people. I also want to express my gratitude to my parents, sisters, and mother for the many hours they have spent over the years transporting me to practices and games. And finally, to Julia and the children. For the sacrifices they have made so that I can keep pursuing my goals, I am incredibly grateful. I cannot express how appreciative I am to them; without their help, none of this would have been possible.

Wade will be on Australia's coaching staff for the series against Pakistan.

Wade will assist Australia's interim coach, Andre Borovec, in the forthcoming white-ball series against Pakistan. In lieu of Andrew McDonald and his support team, who will be preparing for the Test series against India, Wade will once again be a part of the coaching setup for the three-match series, which will start in Brisbane on November 14 and be followed by three ODIs.

At the conclusion of the previous T20 World Cup, I was well aware that my days playing for my country were probably coming to an end. Over the past six months, I've been talking to George Bailey and Andrew McDonald about my international retirement and coaching.

"Coaching has been on my radar over the last few years and thankfully some great opportunities have come my way, for which I am very grateful and excited."
